Guide to visiting Altamura

The visit of Altamura is often combined with that of nearby Matera from which only a few kilometers separate it, but certainly this city does not disappoint: a large cathedral, a very characteristic historical center, although not very well cared for. But it is certainly in the food and wine department that the so called Leonessa di Puglia excels, not only for the famous bread of Altamura, symbol and pride of the city, in the many ovens you can taste taralli, focaccia and cakes; but also the meat is very good, salami (there are also those who offer customizable sausages), oil, wine. The Altamurans, known as capetoste hold to food and to eat well, almost impossible to find a place where food is less than excellent.

One last note: the road that connects Altamura with Corato is one of the most beautiful landscape of all Puglia.
