Guide to visiting Troia

Interest

Those who visit Troy are often amazed to find such a beautiful and important Cathedral in such a small town. But in reality the atmosphere of this small village does nothing but increase the suggestion created by the beauty of the Cathedral. Troia is simply delicious, strangely it has not been included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy because it would deserve it instead. In addition to the cathedral, the name of the city is often associated with the local grape variety, the famous “Nero di Troia” with which many of the wines of the province of Foggia are produced.

Half day itinerary

We will meet our guide in Corso Matteotti from which we will be able to enjoy a splendid view of the Tavoliere delle Puglia. We will reach the historic center of the city in a few minutes. Our first stop will be The Church of San Basilio Magno, an ancient place of worship whose origins whose massive forms represent a unique one in the panorama of Apulian sacred architecture. We will then walk along the city street until we reach the Cathedral dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Assumed into Heaven. The building’s decorative system is truly rich and extraordinary, with a large and very original rose window on the facade. The already magnificent facade is also enriched by bronze portals, the work of Oderisio da Benevento, to be counted among the most beautiful in Italy. We still walk the suggestive streets of this sub Appenino Dauno village before returning to our coach
