Half day itinerary
Meeting with the guide at the ancient abbey of San Leonardo in Lama Volora which rises on the road from Foggia to Manfredonia.
The enchantment of the Middle Ages here presents itself before our eyes. Great is the suggestion in visiting San Leonardo on the first day of Summer when the alignment between sun and this point of the earth is completed and a ray of sunshine, a single ray of sun, penetrates an oculus aligned on the roof.
The second stage is equally extraordinary: the park of the Basilicas. An artistic complex that contains both ancient and contemporary art, both of the highest level. And so here is next to the other the Basilica of Santa Maria di Siponto that carries on itself the burden of the centuries and side contrasted and harmonious at the same time the work of the artist Edoardo Tresoldi: a virtual and real, ancient church modern and postmodern at the same time.
Here is when contemporary art manages to leave everyone with an open mouth in amazement. A church made of wire mesh, transparent and almost incorporeal that blends with the landscape and the excavations of the ancient city of Siponto.
Finally we arrive in the city in Manfredonia where we visited the castle and then with the Gargano behind and the gulf in front we can eat an ice cream (famous ice cream of a kiosk near the castle)
