Interest
Although the Cathedral of Bitonto is an authentic jewel of Apulian Romanesque art, the city is not very well equipped to welcome tourists; or perhaps its charm lies in this: Bitonto is a genuine city, with a historical center that is not touristy but lived by its inhabitants and very vital.

Half day itinerary
Meeting with the guide at Porta Bari in whose vicinity stands the so-called “Castle” which consists of a keep from the Angioma era. We enter the historic center characterized by the many noble palaces once the residence of the Bitontine nobility.
We will stop at the church of Purgatory, archetype of counter-reformist architecture in the Bari area. We then reach the splendid Cathedral. Built between the 11th and 12th centuries and dedicated to San Valentin, it is certainly one of the most beautiful Apulian cathedrals. Rich in decorations on the outside but even more precious are the beautiful (and rare) examples of sacred furnishings kept inside, among which the wonderful Ambo signed by Maestro Nicolaus Protomagister stands out. But even more amazing is what we will admire descending into the crypt, where an ancient mosaic depicting an almost intact griffin was discovered not many years ago. We still walk the streets of the historic center until we return to the starting point.

Bus Parking
Very difficult to park a bus in Bitonto, almost impossible. Better to do only loading and unloading near Porta Bari. If I was the driver I would never leave the Pullman.
